My dear wonderful Global Family! What is your “impossible” today?
Many would have us believe that we live in a dangerous world but our own fears and doubts kill far more of our dreams than those dangers ever do. We sometimes forget that our inner world can be far more destructive than the things that we protect ourselves from in the outer world. Our instinct can be to build a bigger, taller, thicker wall . With each new wall, we feel a little more isolated — a little less like we are heard or that we even belong. Each new brick brings with it a little more doubt and a little more pain. With all of those bricks, we wonder why it feels like we carry the weight of the world on our shoulders at times?
Today, I urge you to venture outside of those walls. Run through each and every field of dreams with heart-pounding courage and joy. It is not the boulders in our path that we should run from. It is our belief that these boulders will destroy us that holds the real danger.
Each and every story, each and every painful scar works to create the extraordinary collage of events that makes you uniquely YOU. The twists and turns of your story — whether the moments are full of adventure or full of the mundane — create the force that gives you your promise and power. It is time to learn to embrace every grain of sand, every pebble, every rock and (yes) every boulder that graces your path. Whether the flowers in your bouquet feel like cacti or roses, the beauty of your life is compelling and sweet.
This past week, we once again stayed in the Miami hotel that has come to feel like a second home to me. Such delicious memories here! We discovered it several days after the Air Ambulance trip to Miami. The hotel close to the hospital was sold out so we found this treasure by “naming our own price” on Priceline. Wow! I remember leaving Saya and Dana up in the room to sleep while I slipped down to the soothing downstairs sitting area just to breathe. How therapeutic that had been!
As I sat here this past week, I couldn’t help but smile to think how far we have come! Knowing that this time, Schuyler, Saya and even Frodo and Tinkerbell were with me! Life was so sweet!
Through its huge magnificent foyer windows, I could practically see the runway where the small but mighty air ambulance landed with our precious cargo.
It had been a flight filled with awe and emotions. Due to the dangerous pressure in Schuy’s brain, we flew the entire four hour flight just above the sea. One tiny plane making its way above the water into the sunset then into the night.
Yes, at the time, there were many aspects of Schuy’s recovery that we were told were “impossible” to hope for — including her vision. We “had” to get used to the concept that she “would” be blind. Fast forward to this past Tuesday.
There we were in the best eye institute in the world working on “fine tuning” that sight that “should not” have been possible. Not only is Schuy not blind, but there is a true shot that her vision will become highly functional. There is even a very real chance that with one more procedure like the one that was done this week the double vision may totally disappear!
Starting this weekend, dear friends, let’s shift those “impossibles” to real “I’m Possibles.” YOUR story — this story that with each step and with each thought that you are creating — IS the gift. YOUR story IS ‘the secret”. Let’s celebrate and have some fun with it. What is the ironic beauty in your own story?
What is the beauty that you see in the world around you?
To truly possess the life, the relationships, the livelihood, the outcomes that you desire, you absolutely must blast through the familiar fears, doubts and dismal stories of the past. Once and for all, it is time to learn to dare to update your inner story. It takes work and it takes belief but aren’t you and this magical planet worth it?
Much Love and Joy,
Meridith Hankenson Alexander
(And Schuy and Fam too!)
