A crisis can be like quicksand… in this episode, I expand upon yesterday’s episode that focusing on those times when we find ourselves engulfed in a crisis moment. For us, it was the moments after the boulder hit. For some, it may be a financial hit. Others may find themselves in personal turmoil. Regardless of the cause of the crisis, it can quickly pull you down and swallow you unless….
As I thought more about the two families embroiled in medical turmoil right now, I was drawn to two books that always seem to have an impact on me. Each time that I read them, new words jump off the pages. With every ounce of my own growth and change, the words of wisdom within the book seem to grow right along with me.
Although the first book seems to apply strictly to accumulating wealth, the message applies to all aspects of life. The book is called THE SCIENCE OF GETTING RICH by Wallace D. Wattles. It was published in (yes) 1910 but don’t let that take your brain out of the game. This book remains powerful today.
The second book is THE GAME OF LIFE AND HOW TO PLAY IT by Florence Shovel Shinn, published in (once again) 1925. Man has been asking the same questions for thousands of years and the answers always seem to imply the same things. It is the application of these answers… the DISCIPLINE required to think as Mr. Wattles would say “A Certain Way” is one of our greatest challenges. And so, we pretend to write off these insights that have been so successful for so many and declare that it’s a coincidence. There must be another way.
And so, generation upon generation stumbles into their own quicksand moment and begins to falter. So what is the answer? Here is what worked in our own quicksand moment. Shockingly, as I reread these two books, I realized that I had lived their parallel “how to play the game of life” instructions to the tee….
Hope that it helps!
