Coming to the Broward Center in Fort Lauderdale — How a Crushing Boulder Became a Powerful Lesson in How to Choose to Live
Tampa, FL July 25, 2018 — Two and a half years ago, bestselling author Meridith Alexander sat on a plane racing to Colombia to potentially say her final goodbyes to her youngest daughter. Hours earlier, Schuyler had been crushed by a falling boulder and was now in a South American ICU not expected to survive. Today, Meridith appears on stages as far away as Singapore sharing her motivating message about the power of a hope inspired mindset and its ability to transform our lives, our businesses, even potentially the world. in October, the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale will give South Florida its first chance to see Meridith Alexander in action.

Facing formidable odds, Schuyler managed to survive “the impossible”, but the challenge is not yet behind them. The severity of the traumatic brain injury has left Schuyler requiring Meridith’s 24/7 care as she works to regain the ability to walk, stand and even speak clearly. Many, including Schuyler’s doctors believe that it was this mother-daughter team’s powerfully affirmative mindset that made the difference — and that continues to motivate their amazing progress.
Meridith and her daughter’s incredible ability to find the positivity in the midst of tragedy attracted the attention of thousands of readers as well as the media. Within days of the accident, Meridith began posting FaceBook updates that were intended to be uplifting as well as informative. She soon began to be flooded with messages from complete strangers who claimed that her motivational posts had changed their lives. These messages ranged from families healing from tremendous grief to individuals finally deciding to live their dream. The common thread — Meridith’s appeal to live their day as if this day might be their last.
“Life is a treasure…something to savor…to rejoice in.. and yes dear ones– on occasion to be fought for…Life is not a given. Love is not a given. But in its elusiveness it becomes a treasure. Maybe more powerful than if it was given to us in an easily accessible form of perfection. “
By November 2017, these posts were compiled into the Amazon bestseller THE SKY IS THE LIMIT which immediately hit #1 new release in the motivational category. Meridith was being asked to share their story on podcasts, in media such as Prevention Magazine and on stages for businesses and entrepreneurs. That was when the concept for the SKY IS THE LIMIT live motivational event was developed.
Finding courage, resilience and hope when faced with overwhelming adversity, much less tragedy, isn’t easy. Even many who are not facing any major obstacles feel that they are not leading a fulfilled life. As Meridith shares, “We live in a time of so much complexity that the richness of our own lives often feels lost or non-existent. For most of us, it’s a world where our bucket lists wait for ‘some day’ and the concept of greatness is reserved for athletes, public figures and movie stars.”
In THE SKY IS THE LIMIT live motivational event, Meridith uses her own compelling story to share the strategies that audiences can use to empower their own lives, even in the midst of fear and anxiety. Meridith coaxes audiences to understand that even when faced with great adversity, we have the ability to choose how we experience these moments. The human spirit is capable of great triumph — no matter the ferocity of the challenge.
Meridith invites audiences to embrace their own unique greatness and to realize that individuals don’t have to be a rock star, movie star or politician to find that greatness. Says Meridith, “You can be just like me — simply a reluctant hero, a single mom, an entrepreneur, a person who has lived through domestic abuse, financial challenges and anxiety. To be great, you just have to be a ‘normal’ human being who is ready to be heard and to make an impact.”
THE SKY IS THE LIMIT live motivational event promises to be an experience that will deeply move all who attend. Like the thousands who continue to follow Meridith and Schuyler’s story, those in the audience may even find that that their lives are transformed.
Meridith shares that, “if there is one thing that I hope the audience will leave with, it’s the commitment to live each day like it’s their last, knowing that it’s not in spite of our boulders that we succeed. It’s precisely thanks to these boulders that we learn just how high we can soar.”
