Vacations are a great time to really examine our most powerful “whys”. It’s the down time when we are really asking ourselves those profound questions that we are also activating the creative side of our brain. The creative side of our brain makes us more uniquely who we have the potential to be and it allows us to activate that part of ourselves so that we truly achieve those incredible results.

And then there is the authentic, spiritual side of ourselves that begs to be allowed to soar… there is the being inside of each of us that becomes massive and at times even heroic, especially when we are allowing our important WHYs to serve others. When we set our sights on leaving a legacy of goodness, generosity and grace, we sow the seeds for unexpected wonder to occur.

This weekend, I floated in the pool and stared up at the sky as my wonderful daughter sat in her wheelchair immersed in a book called THE POWER. I thought about my own WHYs that provide the rocket fuel for my speaking and writing career. Today I declare them into being.

  1. TO GIVE BACK/ PAY FORWARD / EMBRACE THE VALUE OF THE GIFT. When that Colombian boulder came crashing into our family’s lives, it brought with it some profound lessons. It also brought far more blessings that it brought challenges. It taught us things about life that we feel compelled to share with others. It shouldn’t require the crushing blow of a boulder to feel the presence of such greatness all around us — and yes, immensely within each of us.
  2. TO ALLOW ME TO GIVE MY DAUGHTER THE OPPORTUNITY TO ONCE AGAIN TRAVEL THE WORLD. TO ONE DAY SEE HER LIVING HER OWN DREAM OF SHARING HER POWERFUL STORY OF OVERCOMING THIS IMMENSE OBSTACLE. For the first 22 years of her life, Schuyler did more to positively impact this planet and realize her own dreams than most people do in a lifetime. My dream (and my joy) is to see how this next chapter of our lives play out. We are still early in the physical recovery process. I am still her 24/7 caregiver and yet we do progress! We see success every single day!
  3. TO ALLOW ME TO RESERVE A PORTION OF THE PROCEEDS FROM MY SPEAKING TO DONATE TO THE ICU UNIT IN SOCCORRO, COLOMBIA WHERE SWEET SCHUYLER WAS GIVEN THE CHANCE TO SURVIVE. We learned that in Colombia, virtually none of the regional hospitals even have an ICU so had Schuyler landed at one of them, they would have been powerless to assist her. We want to give Colombians a chance at a “rebirth” in life. We want them to have the benefits of an ICU. It is my dream to be able to begin by funding a few families who cannot afford the ICU. I want to then grow to a level where I can assist with equipment or staff. From there, my ultimate dream would be to actually assist in funding the development of other ICU units around Colombia.

Whys make us wise. They are the secret to creating things that others might tell us are impossible to create.

And when we declare our powerful WHYs to the Universe, who knows? The sky truly is the limit — and as we have learned, sometimes the “limit” is only the beginning!

xoxo
